World's Largest Botnet Dismantled
YunHe Wang, a 35-year-old Chinese national, was arrested and charged with creating and operating the 911 S5 botnet. He allegedly:
Managed approximately 150 dedicated servers worldwide, including 76 leased from U.S.-based providers, to deploy malware, control infected devices, and provide
paying customers with access to compromised IP addresses.
Collected approximately $99 million by selling access to the proxied IP addresses, which he used to purchase luxury cars, watches, and properties around the world.
If convicted on all counts, including conspiracy to commit computer fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering, Wang faces a maximum penalty of 65 years in prison.
